Piano lessons built on curiosity, experimentation, and understanding
A different way to learn piano. For motivated kids, teens, and adults
who want to understand how music works, not just what notes to play, through a discovery-driven, nonjudgmental approach
What "discovery" looks like in our lessons together
-
Learning new musical concepts through games, improvisation, and simple composition
-
Thinking creatively about how a piece could sound — joyful, heart-wrenching, mysterious, bold — and letting that shape how you play
-
Training the ear away from the keyboard, learning to hear intervals, chords, and relationships
- Experimenting with how to practice and approaching a problem from a new angle
-
Designing exercises modeled directly on challenging passages, so practice always feels relevant
-
Breaking down difficult sections early, understanding why they feel hard, and addressing them before frustration sets in
Who these lessons are for
-
Curious, open-minded beginners of any age who want to understand how music works instead of just being told what to play
-
Engaged kids who come to lessons with questions, ideas, or curiosity and want to have fun
-
Adults and teens returning to piano who feel stuck, feel like they missed things growing up
-
Students who care about real progress, even if it’s gradual, and want to feel proud of their improvement from week to week
-
Busy students who are willing to practice thoughtfully and stay engaged even if they can’t practice much every day
-
Musicians who play other instruments and want to learn piano to better understand harmony, structure, and the music they love

If this sounds like a good fit, I'd love to hear more about your musical background and your goals.
Meet Alex, Your Piano Teacher
As a piano teacher, I care deeply about helping my students build real musical understanding: learning how to listen, think critically about their playing, and make steady, meaningful progress. I bring both my musical training and my background as a research scientist into my teaching, where curiosity, experimentation, and asking good questions guide how we learn at the piano.
I’ve been teaching for over 15 years and have worked with students from age 4 through adulthood, including many complete beginners and adults returning to piano after years away.
Above all, I want lessons to feel human and motivating so students leave each week clearer on what to work on and excited to keep exploring music.
